Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre for 39 years of remarkable achievement in the arts and dance and congratulates PBT for presenting the enchanting Pittsburgh premiere of Cinderella. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 24 - 26, 2009, to be “ CINDERELLA DAYS” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre was founded in 1969 by Nicholas Petrov, then Director of the Dance School Program at the Pittsburgh Playhouse, and has grown over the last 39 years into a world class dance and artistic institution, attracting over 70,000 visitors annually to the Cultural District ; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre is currently under the artistic direction of Terrance S. Orr, whose leadership over the past 12 years has placed the PBT amongst the elite of national ballet companies in the country; and,
WHEREAS, over the last 39 years, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre has toured extensively through 28 states, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, commissioned more than 10 New Works World Premiers, presented works rich both in the classics and by contemporary choreographers and has had renowned artistic directors and leadership, distinguishing itself with its arts education, community programs and its Ballet School; and,
WHEREAS,  once again, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre takes center stage as it proudly presents the Pittsburgh premier of the fairy tale classic, Cinderella, on  April 24-26, 2009, at  the Benedum Center; and,
WHEREAS, production of Cinderella is a stunningly beautiful production choreographed by Washington Ballet's Septime Webre, featuring lavish costumes by Judanna Lynn, dazzling sets by James Kronzer and Sergei Prokofiev's magnificent score performed by the PBT Orchestra conducted by Charles Barker ; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre invites all of Pittsburgh to attend one of the four enchanting performances of this beloved story which has delighted audiences for generations with its comedy, magic and romance.
