WHEREAS, Marilyn Hornsby is a native of Pittsburgh who attended Pittsburgh Public Schools and was the first in her family to attend college, earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Science in School Counseling; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Hornsby is an ordained and Licensed Evangelist who has diligently served Pastors, congregations, nursing homes, inmates, and communities and youth in various capacities for over forty years and is an Assistant Pastor; and,
WHEREAS, because of her passion for young people, Marilyn founded I Am Whole Mentoring, which is holding their 2nd annual celebration and fundraiser on Saturday, April 6, 2019; and,
WHEREAS, I Am Whole Mentoring (IAW) is a Christ-centered mentoring organization empowering young women between the ages of 15-25 by transforming hopelessness to the hope of Christ through individualized plans created with each mentee and mentor in mind. The word WHOLE in the organization’s name stands for Women Helping Others through Love and Excellence; and,
WHEREAS, IAW believes that pairing young women, ages 11-25, with experienced mentors early in their development, and holding fast to the principles and promises of God as they overcome life challenges and conquer life goals, will help them reach their full potential and increase their chances of success; and,
WHEREAS, IAW serves young adult women seeking a higher education or who desire to enter the workforce, through the use of strong intervention and identity building techniques ensuring that they gain the pertinent tools, life skills and self-esteem needed for continued success; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Marilyn Hornsby and I Am Whole Mentoring for helping young women achieve their goals and not become another statistic; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Saturday, April 6, 2019 to be “I Am Whole Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
