WHEREAS, volunteering one’s time and resources has been, and continues to be, an elemental part of the essence of our city and is essential to its spirit and vitality. Joe Orbovich is someone who exemplifies this quality; and,

WHEREAS, Joe is known to many as “DJ Joe” from the Pittsburgh DJ Company. He volunteers his services for multiple events each year such as the Big Brother Big Sisters Bowling for Kids Sake events and Council President Smith’s annual District 2 Easter Egg Hunt, where he even persuaded his wife to be the Easter Bunny; and,
WHEREAS, he has coordinated the Winter Wonderland and 4th of July events held at the West End-Elliott Overlook for several years and has been an active member of Rotary International since August, 2017 serving as Social Media Coordinator and recently adding Community Services Coordinator to his role; and,
WHEREAS, Joe donates his time to the American Legion, The Open Door Youth Outreach Center, collected book bags and gifts for several school drives and helped at local Santa’s Workshops. This year, he was named one of Pittsburgh’s 50 Finest by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Orbovich is always willing to help residents who are in need of assistance. He was a Snow Angel for 4 years, but did not limit his clients to those who registered for the program. He helped with the Shelter Project, which distributes food and clothing to folks experiencing homelessness on the North Side. He even raised funds to rent a dumpster and coordinated a crew to clean out an Elliott resident’s flooded basement; and,
WHEREAS, Joe is a loving husband to his wife Danielle and devoted father to son Marko and daughter Sydney, to whom he has instilled the volunteering spirit; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby thank Joe Orbovich for the countless acts of service he has performed for the residents of the City of Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, July 19, 2022 to be “Joe Orbovich Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
