Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Fred Metting; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, September 27, 2025 to be "Fred Metting Day' in the City of Pittsburgh.

Body

WHEREAS, Fred started his scouting journey when he joined Scout Pack 208 in 1976. His mother Joann was a den mother and the weekly meetings were held at his home with monthly meetings held in the Georgian hall below saint George church, in the community of Allentown; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 1978 Fred started camping as a Webelo and joined the troop the following year. Fred said “Once I smelled the smoke of the fire and felt the excitement of the night air on a Friday night at my first weekend of camporee at Camp Anawanna, I was hooked”; and,

 

WHEREAS, Fred has worn many hats over his years with the Scouts such as Assistant Patrol Leader; Patrol Leader; Assistant Senior Patrols leader; Patrol Leader; Jr Assistant Scoutmaster. Ad Altare Dei Award- Part 1 & 2; Order of the Arrow Member- Brotherhood Member- 1989. Eagle scout class of 1986; Troop 208; Committee Chair 1989-2006. Club Scout Pack 601; Den Leader of Tigers though Webelo 2- 2007-2012; and,

 

WHEREAS, Fred crossed over 13 young men from his den into Troop 6 in 2012, Boy scout troop 6: joined Troop Committee, took Scoutmaster Training- 2012; became the Assistant Scoutmaster, and took on roll as Scoutmaster in October of 2015; and,

 

WHEREAS, Fred has had many accomplishments with the Scouts such as; 360 weekly meetings, 70 monthly camping trips, 10 annual summer camping trips in the states of PA, OH, VA, NC, MI. Hosted 2 Eagle Valley District Spring Camporees; Hosted the troops 75th Anniversary Reunion Dinner; Mentored over 40 Scouts with 15 of them becoming Eagle scouts. Hiked over 100 miles. Trained scouts on; the Scout Oath, Scout Law, Outdoor Code, life skills from knots to wood tools, fire building to cooking; Flag respect and leadership; and,

 

WHEREAS, Fred has been supported behind the scenes for many years by his wife Michele. Fred said Michele has become an advocate for Scouting and a source of strength and support for him, their sons, the pack and the troop. He could not do it with out her; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Fred Metting; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, September 27, 2025 to be Fred Metting Day’ in the City of Pittsburgh.
