Title
Resolution providing that the City of Pittsburgh enter into a professional services agreement or agreements with the Animal Rescue League, a Pennsylvania non-profit corporation, for professional services in connection with the detention, care and/or euthanasia of domestic animals, and providing for the payment of the cost thereof. Cost not to exceed $1,140,000, subject to annual appropriation by Council.
Body
WHEREAS: The City of Pittsburgh does not maintain a City owned and operated animal shelter for stray animals taken into custody by its Animal Control Division;
WHEREAS: Since 1977, the City's Animal Services have been performed by the Animal Rescue League, a non-profit corporation;
WHEREAS: Animal Rescue League possesses the equipment, skill and staff to provide highly specialized services as required by the Pittsburgh City Code, including but not limited to veterinary care, vaccination, spay and neuter services, euthanasia as circumstances require, and placement for adoption of healthy animals;
WHEREAS: The contract between Animal Rescue League and the City of Pittsburgh will expire on April 29, 2010; and
WHEREAS: The Animal Rescue League is willing to consider renewing the City contract.
Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:
Section 1. The Mayor and the Director of the Department of Public Safety, on behalf of the City of Pittsburgh, are hereby authorized to enter into an agreement or agreements in a form approved by the City Solicitor, for the Animal Rescue League to provide professional services in connection with the detention, care and/or euthanasia of domestic animals at a cost not to exceed One Million One Hundred Forty Thousand ($1,140,000.00), chargeable to and payable from Account 526100, Fund 1000, Organization Code 280000, Subclass 150, Miscellaneous Services, Budget Year 2010 amount $250,000.00, Budget Year 2011, amount $380,000.00, Budget Year 2012, amount $380,000.00, Budget Year 2013 amount $130,000.00, Department of Public Safety, Animal Control.
