WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Glenn Garrett Grayson, Sr., a native of Brooklyn, New York, earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Livingstone College and a Master of Divinity from Hood Theological Seminary, completed Clinical Pastoral Education at Carolina Medical Center, and received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Livingstone College in 2023; and
WHEREAS, after faithfully serving Third Creek and Shiloh A.M.E. Zion Churches, Reverend Grayson was appointed pastor of Wesley Center A.M.E. Zion Church in Pittsburgh's historic Hill District in December 1996, where his leadership strengthened the congregation, guided major renovations, and enabled the church to retire its mortgage in 2000; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Grayson founded Center That CARES, a nonprofit organization whose tutoring, enrichment, and youth development programs have served more than 13,000 students and families from pre-kindergarten through college, and whose growth led to the opening of the 14,000-square-foot Jeron X. Grayson Community Center in memory of his son; and
WHEREAS, his ministry extends far beyond the pulpit through leadership of the City's largest violence prevention program, services for people experiencing homelessness, a community cafe and garden, civic leadership, mentorship, and tireless advocacy for vulnerable children and families, earning him recognition by President Barack Obama as a White House Champion of Change in 2014; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the Reverend Dr. Glenn Garrett Grayson, Sr. for thirty years of devoted pastoral leadership at Wesley Center A.M.E. Zion Church and for his extraordinary service to Pittsburgh's Hill District and the city at large; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh joins his family, congregation, and community in celebrating Reverend Grayson's 30th Pastoral Anniversary and extends its dee...
