WHEREAS, Annie “Lois” Carter was born on September 19, 1936, and will celebrate her 90th birthday on September 19, 2026; and,
WHEREAS, Annie is a passionate, outspoken, and eloquent community advocate for the Northside and District 1 and a dedicated advocate for Pittsburgh’s senior community; and,
WHEREAS, Annie’s community advocacy is rooted in her passion for supporting Pittsburgh’s seniors, with a particular focus on protecting their health rights, voting rights, and access to essential services; and,
WHEREAS, Annie is an active and valued member of the Pittsburgh community, volunteering with senior housing communities and church-based organizations including Pittsburgh Higher Ground, West Park Court, Perrysville Plaza, and Steelworkers Tower; and,
WHEREAS, through her service to these communities, Annie organizes and facilitates food pantries, extracurricular activities, and other programs for residents, helping to foster connection, fellowship, and a positive environment for Pittsburgh seniors; and,
WHEREAS, Annie is a steadfast advocate for senior voting rights and civic participation, working to ensure that seniors have accessible transportation to voting centers, community events, and essential services; and,
WHEREAS, through her decades of advocacy, volunteerism, and service, Annie “Lois” Carter has made a lasting contribution to the senior community and the neighborhoods she proudly serves.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate Annie “Lois” Carter on the milestone of her 90th Birthday and thank her for her service to our city; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, September 19, 2026, to be “Annie ‘Lois’ Carter Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
