Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and thanks Joni Rabinowitz for 25 years of working to end hunger and poverty in the Pittsburgh region and wishes her well in future endeavors; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares January 14, 2010, "Joni Rabinowitz Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on January 14, 2010, Joni Robinowitz will be honored with a luncheon to celebrate her retirement from Just Harvest; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Rabinowitz served as a Co-Director of Just Harvest for 25 years; and
 
WHEREAS, the mission of Just Harvest is to promote economic justice and works to influence public policy and to educate, empower, and mobilize the citizens of our community toward the elimination of hunger and poverty; and
 
WHEREAS, as a volunteer with the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee, Ms. Rabinowitz worked in the civil rights movement in Georgia in the 1960s; and
 
WHEREAS, prior to the creation of Just Harvest, Ms. Rabinowitz was the Public Policy Advocate for the Hunger Action Coalition; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Rabinowitz holds a degree from Antioch College and a Master's of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Robinowitz and her husband, John, reside in the Point Breeze neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
