Title
Resolution authorizing and Directing the Director of Parks and Recreation to immediately correspond with the parents of the preschool children who enrolled in the City of Pittsburgh's Preschool Centers to inform them of alternative preschool and head start opportunities offered including but not limited from the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center, the Pittsburgh Board of Education, etc.
 
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh's Preschool Centers, located in 5 of the City's Recreation Centers, have educated and instructed a total of 150 to 200 preschoolers per year; and
 
WHEREAS, one of the results of the budgetary crisis of 2003 led to the closure of the City's 19 Recreation Centers and all 5 preschool sites at Troyhill Cowley, Morningside, Olympia Park, Phillips Park and South Side Market House, leaving many parents uninformed of where to send their children; and
 
WHEREAS, Sue Buffton, the Director of Three Rivers American Indian Center, as well as many other preschools and head starts in the City of Pittsburgh, have contacted the City of Pittsburgh to offer an alternative to the families wanting to send their preschoolers to school.
 
Be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby enacts as follows:
 
Section 1.      The Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation is authorized and directed to immediately correspond with the parents of the preschool children who enrolled in the City of Pittsburgh's Preschool Centers to inform them of alternative preschool and head start opportunities offered including but not limited from the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center, the Pittsburgh Board of Education, etc.
