Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Shyne Awards for recognizing the noteworthy achievements of our youth and adults; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, August 3, 2013, to be “Shyne Honorees Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the 7th Annual Shyne Awards is set for Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the August Wilson Center, 980 Liberty Avenue with the Red Carpet event beginning at 5:30PM; and,
 
WHEREAS, the concept of the Shyne Awards was conceived by Darnell Drewery and Orlana Darkins Drewery who wanted to highlight youth and their positive achievements in place of the negative stories heard most about our young people; and,
 
WHEREAS, awards are given in the categories of The Arts, Academics, Entrepreneurship, Community Service, Service in Ministry, Science and Overcoming Obstacles; and,
 
WHEREAS, the following Shyne Honorees are honored:
 
David Berkley, Jr. - Community Service; Tahjonai Gamble, Service in Ministry;
Bryant Harper, Jr., Academics;  Halie Smith, Overcoming Obstacles;
Three Talented Girlz "3TG", The Arts and Bidwell Presbyterian Church Young Adult Ministry, Youth Group; and,    
 
WHEREAS, the following adult honorees are honored:
 
Dr. Marcia Sturdivant, President, NEED Program - Gwendolyn J. Elliott Lifetime Achievement Award
Valerie Dixon, PACT Initiative - The Movement Award
William Blakey, Hill House Association - Illumination Award                             
                        ; and,
