WHEREAS, the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh was founded in 1946; and
WHEREAS, the Society was formed to offer Spectroscopy training to the scientific community throughout the City of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Spectroscopy is the study of the interaction between radiated energy and matter; and
WHEREAS, advances in the field of Spectroscopy have led to major breakthroughs in the study of quantum mechanics and our understanding of the structure of the atom, and
WHEREAS, the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh has expanded its role to include actively funding all disciplines of science, and
WHEREAS, this support has taken the form of numerous grants, scholarships, and donations to the Carnegie Science Center, the Carnegie Science Fair, the Carnegie Museum, and numerous committed individuals in the field of scientific discovery.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh for their dedication to providing education and support to Pittsburgh's scientific community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare July 30th, 2013 to be "Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
