WHEREAS, in the words of Post-Gazette reporter, Rich Davis, you can hold your head high if you hit your drive 229 yards, humble your golfing partners if you drive one 329 yards but you'll have the whole clubhouse talking if you launch one a ridiculous 429 yards ; and,
WHEREAS, a 429 yard golf drive is commonplace for Central Catholic High School Senior Brent Rogers and in June 2013, he won the Open Age Division as the local qualifier for the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship at the Pittsburgh North Golf Club in, making him the youngest to qualify ; and,
WHEREAS, Brent also won the WPIAL Championship with a 71 at the Fox Chapel Golf Club in October 2012 ; and,
WHEREAS, Brent won the Western PA Golf Association Junior Championship with a 76 and a 72 over two days at the Club at Shadow Lakes in Hopewell; and,
WHEREAS, Brent, having grown up around golf, attributes his interest and skills to his Dad, also a long drive competitor, and plans to pursue golf at the collegiate level. A Cranberry native and a scratch golfer, Brent has been an integral part of the Central Catholic Golf Team and having qualified for the World Finals in Nevada last year, chose not to compete but instead to play with his team in the PIAA Team Championships

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Brent Rogers for his extraordinary skills and congratulates Brent for his achievements and unselfish nature , having brought distinction and pride to the Central Catholic Golf Program; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, , that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday , July 30, 2013, to be " BRENT ROGERS DAY " in the City of Pittsburgh.
