WHEREAS, community leaders, public officials, and dedicated volunteers who take action to help prevent violence in our communities, and provide services to at-risk youth, make the City of Pittsburgh a better place to live for all; and
WHEREAS, on Saturday, June 29th, 2013, at Stage AE, Stop the Violence - Pittsburgh will conduct a Community PEACE Awareness Day that will bring together nearly twenty grass-roots organizations and elected officials from the Pittsburgh area; and
WHEREAS, the Community PEACE Awareness Day will offer a platform for local organizations including music institutes, mental health specialists, and domestic violence groups to showcase some of the high-quality support services that are available to the community; and
WHEREAS, the event will also include motivational speakers on conflict resolution and anti-bullying, live entertainment, and the “Gone but Not Forgotten” segment to commemorate the murder victims of 2012-2013 and their families; and
WHEREAS, the following individuals and organizations will be recognized for their efforts to reduce violence and prevent crime:

Debra Germany - Executive Director of Divine Intervention Ministries (DIM)
Inshirah Jihada - a Homewood community organizer
Adrienne Young - Executive Director of Tree of Hope
El Gray - a former community organizer, now deceased
Khalid Raheem - President of the National Council for Urban Peace & Justice
Richard Garland - a social service activist, and former president of One Vision One Life
Renee Goodson - of Homewood
Cheryl Harvey - of Larimer, now deceased
June Bryant - of East Hills
Olivia Jones - Gang Outreach Program
New Pittsburgh Courier - for its work highlighting violence in the African-American communities of Allegheny County
