WHEREAS, Kristine Kirk established Mentors Consulting & Training, a certified Women Owned Business in 1994 which has since designed and implemented successful workforce learning plans for large institutions; and,
WHEREAS, with the emergence and expected job growth of the Energy Industry in the Pittsburgh region, Kristine along with Reginald Good from Pittsburgh's Northside, launched Mentors Community Wealth Building Initiative (MCWBI), a community based program design intended to connect the dots between the residents of Pittsburgh's underserved neighborhoods and career opportunities in emerging industries including the Oil & Gas field; and,
WHEREAS, in its first year of operation with less than expected funding and a downturn in industry hiring, MCWBI was still able to exceed its pilot goal of engaging 44 young African American men; and,
WHEREAS, to date, MCWBI has engaged a total of 44 men in its first 4 pilot groups, the program boasts a 90% career placement rate in careers that provide healthy, strong personal incomes between $50,000 to $80,000 representing middle-class wages that flow back into the community;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 18, 2013 to be "Mentors Community Wealth Building Initiative Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
