Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Karen Momberger on being named Labor's 2013 Woman of the Year by the Allegheny County Labor Council, and does hereby declare April 19, 2013, to be "Karen Momberger - Labor's 2013 Woman of the Year Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, since appointed to the position in November 2009, Karen Momberger is Assistant to AFSCME Council 13, Executive Director Dave Fillman in Harrisburg; and

WHEREAS, prior to becoming an assistant at Council 13, Karen Momberger was a staff representative for AFSCME District Council 84 here in Pittsburgh for seventeen years, representing numerous locals within the district council for grievance resolution, and labor management issues; and

WHEREAS, Karen Momberger negotiated several contracts with local government bodies including the City of Pittsburgh and Butler County, she also served as Allegheny County Labor Council Vice-President; and

WHEREAS, before her career began with AFSCME, Karen worked eight years as a clerk typist for the Department of Public Welfare, while there she served as a steward, local secretary and president to AFSCME Local 2105, which represents all state rank and file employees in Beaver County, from PennDOT operators to Old Economy custodial guides and Raccoon State Park maintenance employees; and

WHEREAS, Karen Momberger is most of all the loving wife of retired staff representative, Eric, and step-mother of Christopher, whom she is happy to call her friend and her son - always a great and loving family woman; and

WHEREAS, the health and vitality of the City of Pittsburgh is reflected in the great leadership Karen Momberger exemplifies towards improving the quality of life for all working people in Western Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, on Friday, April 19, 2013, community members will gather at the Sheraton Station Square for the Allegheny County Labor Council Banquet, to honor Karen Momberger as Labor's 2013 Woman of the Year, for her continued service;
