Title: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh welcomes the Polish American Priests Association as it holds its 24th Annual Convention in Pittsburgh for the first time. THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 8, 2013 through April 12, 2013 to be Polish American Priests Association Week in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Polish American Priests Association was founded in 1990 in San Antonio by The Most Reverend Bishop John Yanta; and
WHEREAS, this year the Polish American Priests Association will be holding its 24th Annual Convention here in the City of Pittsburgh for the first time in its history; and
WHEREAS, this year's convention will be attended by His Eminence Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwish of Krakow, Poland, who was a longtime special aide to Pope John Paul II, and His Eminence Cardinal Adam Maida of Detroit, who was born in East Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, and was first ordained at the Cathedral of St. Paul in Pittsburgh in 1956; and
WHEREAS, five bishops will also be in attendance at this year's convention: The Most Reverend John Yanta of San Antonio, The Most Reverend Andrew Wypych of Chicago, The Most Reverend Mark Bartchak of Altoona-Johnstown, The Most Reverend William Waltersheid of Pittsburgh, and The Most Reverend David Zubik of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, delegates to this year's convention have a full schedule of events around the City and region, including a visit to the Polish Room at the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning, a ride on the Duquesne Incline, a trip to St. Joseph's in Everson, Pennsylvania and a trip to St. Thomas Parish in Footedale-New Salem, Pennsylvania, and a visit to the oldest Polish parish in all of southwestern Pennsylvania, the Saint Stanislaus Kostka church on 21st Street in the Strip District; and
WHEREAS, in addition to an annual convention lunch at the Georgetown Inn on Mount Washington, the Polish American Priests Association will hold a convention mass at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Brereton Street in Polish Hill on Thursday, April 11 at 5:00 p.m., followed by a celebratory banquet on the Gateway Clipper.
