WHEREAS, the Fraternal Societies of Greater Pittsburgh (FSGP) chooses a member who displays active leadership in promoting the fraternal spirit and who has made valuable contributions to the fraternal community as Fraternalist of the Year; and
WHEREAS, at a time when women were almost considered second class citizens, nine Slovak immigrant homemakers in Cleveland, Ohio, established the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association (FCSLA) to meet the needs of immigrant families in 1892; and
WHEREAS, prior to becoming the FCSLA National President in 2012, Cynthia M. Maleski served two terms as a National Trustee on the Board of Directors and has been involved with her Branch S-313 for over 30 years, where she currently serves as Branch President; and
WHEREAS, Cynthia M. Maleski has been a practicing attorney for over 30 years, Cynthia is a nationally known expert in insurance law and has served as first in-house counsel at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Cynthia M. Maleski has held numerous leadership positions in many Slovak/Slavic national organizations, along with positions in national and regional community groups; and
WHEREAS, Cynthia M. Maleski is most of all the loving wife of Andrzej Groch for 30 years, and mother of Elizabeth - always a great and loving family woman; and
WHEREAS, on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the Sheraton Station Square, at the annual FSGP Banquet, First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association National President, Cynthia M. Maleski is being honored as 2013 FSGP Fraternalist of the Year, for her continued service;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Cynthia M. Maleski on being named 2013 FSGP Fraternalist of the Year by the Fraternal Societies of Greater Pittsburgh, and does hereby declare March 16, 2013, to be "Cynthia M. Maleski Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
