Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Yves Jean for his dedication to improving our community through the power of music; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare January 17, 2013 to be “Yves Jean Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Yves Jean is a local musician who creates music that arises from the "collision of grief and groove"; and
 
WHEREAS, Jean has organized a benefit concert on January 17 at Stage AE to raise awareness regarding the issue of youth violence in our community and beyond; and
 
WHEREAS, the concert benefits The Western Pennsylvania Youth Athletic Association and LHAS Teen Dating Violence and Awareness Program, organizations that provide productive outlets for young people; and
 
WHEREAS, Jean, a Haitian-American who grew up amidst the violence and poverty of the Bronx and Harlem in New York City, found music as a valuable escape from his surroundings,
 
WHEREAS, Jean's personal experience has inspired him to share the transcending force of music to bring us together in peace and harmony.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Yves Jean for his dedication to improving our community through the power of music; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare January 17, 2013 to be "Yves Jean Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
