Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby remember Mark C. Schneider for the lasting contributions he made to our City and region; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 27, 2012 “Mark C. Schneider Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Mark C. Schneider was born in Pittsburgh and spent most of his life here working for the betterment of the City and the region; and
 
WHEREAS, Mark was a real estate developer and community organizer whose vision and drive led to some of the most striking examples of Pittsburgh's revitalization, adapting and reusing shuttered sites from our industrial past to create world-class redevelopments like Washington's Landing and Summerset at Frick Park; and
 
WHEREAS, in 1993, Mayor Tom Murphy appointed Mark Chairman of the Stadium Authority and he later became Chairman of the Allegheny County Sports and Exhibition Authority, helping to lay the groundwork for PNC Park and Heinz Field, two of the most celebrated sporting facilities in the United States.; and
 
WHEREAS, Mark also served as Chairman of the Board of 10,000 Friends of Southwestern Pennsylvania, promoting smart growth and sustainable development throughout the region; and
 
WHEREAS, Mark was an avid bicyclist and was one of the founders of Pedal Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's largest organized cycling event, attracting thousands of participants ever year; and
 
WHEREAS, Mark was tragically killed in a bicycling accident in Western Maryland on Saturday, July 28th 2012; and
 
WHEREAS; on Saturday, October 27th a new park in Summerset at Frick Park will be dedicated to his memory and to the incredible work he did on behalf of the City of Pittsburgh and its residents.
