Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the 125th anniversary of Henne Jewelers and commend the Henne family and their dedicated employees; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare October 23, 2012 “Henne Jewelers Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Henne Jewelers was founded by Rudolph Joseph Henne in 1887 in East Liberty and quickly became a neighborhood staple, offering high quality jewelry, watches, and repairs; and
 
WHEREAS, Rudolph Gerard Henne inherited the business from his father in 1934 and weathered the tough times of the Great Depression and World War II, keeping the store open even though their business was reduced by more than half; and
 
WHEREAS, in 1975 Rudolph passed the business along to his son, John (Jack) Henne, who in 1978 moved the store from East Liberty to Shadyside; and
 
WHEREAS, in 2003, as the business grew, Henne Jewelers moved into its current retail showroom at 5501 Walnut Street under the leadership of fourth generation family member John Henne, while Jack and Nancy Henne continue to take an active role.
