Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Paddle Without Pollution's low impact and high visibility cleanup events that empower volunteers to make a real and immediate difference in the health of our waterways; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 24, 2012 “Paddle Without Pollution Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Paddle Without Pollution, which is celebrating its first anniversary, was created to restore and protect the health of the rivers, streams, lakes, and wetlands of Pennsylvania; and
 
WHEREAS, Paddle Without Pollution has three core initiatives emphasizing hands-on clean up of waterways, and education about watersheds, paddling techniques, and pollution prevention; and
 
WHEREAS, volunteers of nearly any paddling skill level can get involved by paddling into areas that are either ecologically sensitive or too small for other boats or cleanup crews to reach; and
 
WHEREAS, Paddle Without Pollution uses non-motorized boats in order to operate with very little or no impact to the environment; and
 
WHEREAS, over the past year, Paddle Without Pollution has provided services in county and state parks, all three of Pittsburgh's great rivers, and Chartiers Creek.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 24, 2012 "Paddle Without Pollution Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
